It’s not a mystery that the new year is the time everyone decides they need a change. A vast majority of people have a goal to lose weight for the new year. You clean out the pantry, and stock it with healthy items. One to two months later, it’s back to the old ways, because you weren’t seeing results. Understand your body

Dieting is not fun. It’s hard and requires serious dedication. The body also loves to put up a fight along the way as well. Your body is used to comfort foods, not kale. After a few weeks, you may hit a wall, and your body begins to fight. It starts holding on to fat and you can’t win. You decide to cut out more calories until you are left with a chunk of chicken (boneless-skinless, of course).  The weight is still sticking. You are about to go crazy. This is the body’s response to prolonged dieting. If you diet too hard or for too long, the body fights at all costs to keep fat intact.

Your problem is just like the rest. You dove in head first, and went for broke. You didn’t plan accordingly and allow your body the time it took to progress. You need to slow things down and make some simple tweaks. Here are some simple tweaks:

  • Reduce calories slowly. The fastest horse does not always win the race. You need to strategize. Slow and steady wins the race. Calculate your calories to determine how many calories it takes to maintain your weight. Reduce slowly (100-200 per week max).
  • Increase calorie expenditure via exercise. It’s no secret that exercise burns calories. You need to be weight training at least 2 to 3 times per week. You will also need to be performing a few cardio sessions per week. Depending on the type, you will be doing an average of 10-30 minutes per session to start.
  • Supplement wisely. Pills may not always be the answer, but they can help here. You will want to add in a few supplements to help fight fat and fight against catabolic hormones. The supplement suggestions will be listed later.
  • Pick a size or number (on the scale).  Choose one or the other. Do not say you want to lose 50 pounds in 10 weeks as that is too much weight in a short period of time. You should also focus on one or the other. I prefer clients choose a size rather than weight. People get stuck on a weight and will sacrifice size and muscle at all costs to get to that number.
