Athlete of the Month: Amanda Zawojsky

Brandon Hahn May 7, 2014 Athletic Xtreme News

Each month we choose an athlete that goes above and beyond the call. This month we’ve chosen Amanda Zawojsky. Amanda is a Women’s Physique competitor and will be stepping onstage soon.

Why did you begin exercising?

I have always been very active, but about 10 years ago I had hit my heaviest weight I had ever been at. To say the least, I wasn’t very happy about it. So I decided to commit to 1 month of consistent distant exercise and in 4 weeks had lost 10 pounds. That was more than. Enough motivation to push me farther, and I’ve been pushing farther ever since.

What does your weekly workout regimen look like?

I do a 5 day split. I’m sure it’s not very different from what a lot of people do. But it works for me and that’s why I do it. They vary sometimes, but here’s what a typical workout week looks like for me.
  • Monday: legs (heavy)
  • Tuesday: back/bi’s
  • Wednesday: chest/tri’s
  • Thursday: shoulders
  • Friday: legs (bodyweight/plyos)
  • Saturaday: cardio only
  • Sunday: off
My training schedule stays pretty consistent, but precontest I add in a lot more cardio.

What does your off-season diet look like?

I spend a lot of time when prepping for a show measuring and weighing my food. Off-season, I do a lot of eyeball measurements. I try to stick to an 80/20 ratio of clean eats to treats. Of course there’s always the weeks that are off plan, but I don’t sweat those.

How about contest prep, what do you change from off-season to contest prep?

During contest prep I like to keep my carbs low with 2 weekly refeed meals, as opposed to moderate carbs throughout the day (as I would off season). I tried many different approaches to the dieting process and my body seems to respond best to this way of doing it.

Who inspires you and why?

Funny enough the people who inspire me most are not competitors (although they always give me motivation). The people who inspire me most are the people who’ve had many obstacles in their paths and who’ve had the hardest ladders to climb, who still continue to follow through and go after their dreams.

What are your future goals in this sport?

I’m currently prepping for the 2014 NPC Jr Nationals this June. I placed 3rd last year, so I’m hoping to climb those 2 extra spots. Then who knows. I guess the sky’s the limit, right?

What would you tell someone who is just starting out in exercise?

  1. Stay consistent! It didn’t take overnight to get out of shape, it will be take more than overnight to get back in shape.
  2. Diet is key.
  3. And set short goals so you don’t get overwhelmed or discouraged.
