“Let’s Talk About…”

Cavino Johnson March 27, 2014 Supplement Articles

One, of many, perks of what I do for a living is getting some of the most interesting (and honest) questions a person can get.  As a trainer, I hear some of the most intimate details of peoples’ lives, their relationships, careers, financials, etc.  I don’t always advise, as most people just need a chance to vent.  So, I just listen.

Recently, I received an email that made me laugh out loud, made me think, made me appreciate and made me have a need to write this content.  Now, before I get into it, I have to warn you.  The subject matter is a bit on the adult side of things. There’s the warning.

The Email

“I have a question. Do sex hormones interfere with building muscle? Like in this case, if some one is following the muscle book work out plan and has sex with his partner like 2-3 times a week is it bad for the training?”

Now, I know some of you will say that this is a silly question… Like I said, even I, at first, laughed out loud.  But then I remembered that people ask me questions with hopes of an informative answer that can be applied, even to the simplest of daily things.

Does “sex hormones interfere with building muscle?”

My thoughts

For men, one of the main sex hormones in males, is testosterone.  Usually higher in our younger years, are testosterone levels are high, but as we age, those levels begin to drop.  Some health related issues may also cause a significant drop.  When this happens, your libido usually begins to diminish, as well.

So, we know that testosterone is the sex hormone in men… but it is also the hormone that aids in muscle growth! Actually, it’s the main hormone that is necessary to build muscle. So, does sex make you lose your gains?

Nope. Not. At. All.  If anything, it increases your testosterone levels.  Increased test levels means more of the hormone to be used in building quality mass.  Now, I’m not saying that you can go in for a bout in the bedroom then rush off to the gym for a good leg training session and you will wobble out with the wheels of an Olympian.  It’s probably best that you wait until AFTER training to romance your lady.  Test levels rise during training, too.  Put them together and your significant other may nickname you “The Beast”.  Look at you getting ideas and such.  There are other ways to raise those test levels.

Do Manly Things

Do things that make you feel like a man.  Chop wood.  Go drive a race car.  Go to a sports bar and watch your favorite sport with the fellas.  Build something. Take over a company.  As for training, do the heavier compound moves.  I know for me, when I deadlift, squat, bench or other Olympic style lifts, I feel like a stud. My adrenaline goes crazy.  My body swells up and muscles ripple.  I feel like a warrior.  I feel like conquering.  I guess I feel like Arnold did in Conan or Leonidas during his battles against Persia (of course, right before he was riddled with Persian arrows).  When I get home, I damn near run into the house looking for my wife.  ”Feel my muscles!” and then… well, she’d kill me if I elaborated.  What I’m saying is, my test levels are so high.  My libido is through the roof. She calls me “The Beast”.

Treat your body right

You can, also, increase your testosterone levels with your nutrition and sleep.  Proteins and cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, kale, collard greens, Brussels sprouts, et cetera. Every wonder why, when you wake up in the morning, you have a “situation”?  Your test levels are highest in the mornings.  So, you can use the day to feed those levels to maintain through food, training and even supplementation.  Athletic Xtreme has MassFX Black, one of the best testosterone boosters on the market.  While you’re building that testosterone, go ahead and become irresistible with AX’s Magnum and AXCite pheromone spray cologne.

To answer the question, in a more brief way- No, sex will not deter your training or your muscle gains.  The more you train, the more gains you’ll get and the more confident you’ll get. That confidence will begin to be shown as you develop that manly swagger that becomes irresistible  to the opposite sex… Testosterone is good. Sex is good. Training is good… They all go together.

Go. Conquer.

Your welcome,
The Beast
